#CelebrateFirstGen

Friday, November 8th, 2019 marks the annual National First-Generation College Celebration Day. This day commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965, which was installed to create more opportunities in higher education for people from minority and low-income backgrounds. Friday also marks the end of First-Gen Week; yet, at Students Rising Above we are always celebrating our First-Gen College Students! In our SRA Rising Stars Program 96% of our students are First-Generation College Students and 100% are low to moderate income. Students in the Rising Stars Program are overcoming tremendous odds and succeeding in their goals! We are so excited to introduce our brand new class of Rising Stars!

Meet our Rising Stars

This year’s SRA Class of Rising Stars represents 47 different high schools in the Bay Area. With the help of SRA Advisors, these new Rising Stars have submitted 989 college applications! Our students have also created a total of 75 financial aid budgets that were finalized and approved by their SRA advisors.

Our new SRA Rising Stars College Students are succeeding in public and private universities near and far. The Top 5 represented public universities of this class include: UC Berkeley, UC Merced, UC Davis, UC Riverside, and CSU East Bay. The Top 5 represented private universities of this class include: Macalester College, Connecticut College, Yale University, Williams College, and Wesleyan College. We are so excited about these amazing students and we can’t wait to see how far they will continue to go during their time in college.
