Students Rising Above Welcomes Angela Bugayong as Interim Chief Executive Officer
San Francisco, CA – Students Rising Above (SRA) is proud to announce the appointment of Angela Bugayong as its Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
With more than fifteen years of experience in nonprofit management and the field of college attainment, Angela is well equipped to guide SRA through this transition period. In her three prior years with SRA, first as its Senior Director of Program Strategy and then as Chief Program Officer, Angela has led the organization to new levels of effectiveness in its support to first-generation students from low-income backgrounds. Her work to establish systems and processes for data collection, management, and use has been transformative to SRA’s impact, as has her leadership to more culturally adaptive and strength-based service designs.
As a first-generation college graduate from a low-income background herself, Angela’s role is not just a professional milestone—it is deeply personal. Angela was the first in her family to earn a college degree, from California State University, Los Angeles, and has dedicated her entire career to working at organizations that support first-generation college-bound students from low-income backgrounds in succeeding in education, career, and in life.
Angela is an alumnus of Georgetown University’s Nonprofit Executive Certificate Program, NCAN Leading for Equity Fellowship, and Bridging the Bay, Igniting Leaders of Change.
As Interim CEO, Angela will oversee SRA’s operational and programmatic priorities. She will continue to move forward with supporting SRA’s students in their journeys as they define and find success in education, career, and life. “I am thrilled to pass the baton of SRA’s leadership to Angela Bugayong, who has had a profound impact on our work in her time with us. She is thoughtful, experienced, and student-centered, and is the right person to carry SRA into its next stage of effectiveness,” said outgoing CEO Elizabeth Devaney.
Please join us in congratulating Angela as she steps into SRA’s Interim CEO.
