Help us Fund their Future

The COVID-19 health crisis has become a national education crisis, widening the achievement gap between low-income, first-generation students and their peers. The Students Rising Above Fund their Future campaign and event raises funds to ensure SRA students’ educational journeys are not derailed during this pandemic. While their circumstances and needs are changing daily, our dedication to supporting our students remains the same, but we need your help. Please support our students’ journey now, and join us virtually on Wednesday, September 2nd when we celebrate our rising college freshmen. Donate online anytime to support SRA’s ongoing Fund their Future campaign.

Meet our Speakers

Tyisha Higgins

SRA Alum, Class of 2005

Tyisha grew up in the East Bay in the city of Oakland. She attended Skyline High School and spent her teenage years couch surfing after she lost both her parents to terminal illness. Tyisha joined the SRA family in 2005. With the support of Students Rising Above, she graduated from CSU San Francisco with a degree in Liberal Studies in 2011.

After college, Tyisha began working at The Entrust Group as an Administrative Assistant. She skillfully worked her way up through multiple promotions and is currently an Accounts Receivable Supervisor. She is the owner of a condo in Antioch and enjoys giving back to Students Rising Above.

“Students Rising Above was necessary for my personal and professional growth. The endless resources, opportunities, and new family that I gained completely exceeded my expectations. I admire and will be forever grateful for Student Rising Above’s commitment and dedication to improving the lives of underprivileged youth.”

Darnell Abraham

Guest Speaker and Performer

Darnell is pleased to partner with Students Rising Above this year! Currently playing George Washington in HAMILTON on the And Peggy Tour, Darnell’s professional performance background spans musical theater, soul music, R&B, and opera. As a result, he has been recognized by audiences and critics alike for his versatility in the theater and on the concert stage.

After completing his undergraduate studies in Southern California, Darnell earned his Master’s degree from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Beyond the stage, he is an advocate for students from low-income and underrepresented communities to ensure that they, too, have a fair chance to succeed in life.
