SRA #CollegeSigningDay
On Friday, May 1st, 2020, Students Rising Above celebrated National College Decision Day via a Zoom Celebration with our High School Seniors. Our SRA #CollegeSigningDay Zoom Celebration began with opening notes from Veli, SRA Senior Manager of College Success. Veli explained the importance of National College Decision Day and shared about Michelle Obama’s nationwide participation and encouragement for college bound students through Reach Higher and Better Make Room. Next, SRA Alum, LeJon gave some words of wisdom to our Rising Stars Class of 2020. He discussed overcoming imposter syndrome and told our students they “have all the potential in the world.” He also shared an original song with an uplifting message.
This year, due to COVID-19, #CollegeDecisionDay has been extended, giving students more time to decide where they are committing to college. Students Rising Above staff expressed that not everyone needs to know where they are heading yet, that time will help sort the decision through, and that SRA is here for students during the entire process.
Our High School Seniors individually shared their College Signing Day decisions, wearing their college gear with pride and cleverly showcasing their colleges in their zoom digital backgrounds. We are excited to see that our Rising Stars have committed to such a variety of different schools in the Fall.
