Giving Thanks!

Thanksgiving may be over but there is always so much to be thankful for! Thank you to all who participated in #GivingTuesday! Here at Students Rising Above, we are so thankful for our SRA Family each and every day. Thank you to our SRA students for sharing their amazing college journeys with us. Thank you to our SRA Advisors and Mentors for guiding our students. Thank you to our staff for working so hard to make SRA the best it can be. Thank you to our donors for making our mission possible. No matter what your support looks like, we appreciate you!

Our SRA Rising Stars want to share their thanks with you. They are so grateful for the contributions to their education and future. Below some of our SRA Student Ambassadors explain why they are thankful for Students Rising Above.

“I am thankful for SRA because it has helped me physically and emotionally throughout college. When I was failing a class, I told my advisor, Amy Niles, about the situation. Then she helped me find alternative ways to get back on track and get extra help on the courses that I would be taking. I am really grateful for SRA to be by my side when I need help with anything. They have also given me an awesome opportunity to be one of their student ambassadors, where I go to events to talk to donors and help out with workshops and many more!”-Joey, SRA Student Ambassador

“In short, I am thankful for SRA because it is a program that has given me a better college experience. While it is a huge help financially, I continue to meet great people and be presented with equally great opportunities through SRA. The way the whole team makes each student feel welcome, heard, and understood is such an amazing thing to have as I go through the highs and lows of college. I am currently in my third year as a pre-vet student, and I have SRA to thank for having my back on this journey.” -Ruth, SRA Student Ambassador

“Thanks to SRA support and guidance, I have gained professional and social skills to advance my career readiness. I am thankful for SRA for giving me the opportunity to learn real world skills to navigate in the real world and utilize them to create change. Using these skills I have been able to create great networks with great organizations such as Opportunity Youth Forum, Bay Area Community Resources, Urban Strategies Council, and Social Justice Sewing Academy. These relationships have provided me an opportunity to advocate and represent for my community in both educational and political spaces. I am thankful for SRA because of the network skills I learned, it empowered me to equip myself in environments of public policy and social justice to address real world issues around the world.  Through the mentorship from SRA I feel more confident in my abilities to navigate through fields of professionalism, education, and public policy. While being a college student I’ve had the privilege to travel across the country and facilitate discussions of social justice – affiliated in discussions that address strategies to promote youth voice, the potential of healing power through storytelling, ways young people are influencing public perception and public policy by making sure our voices are heard” -Jocelyn, SRA Student Ambassador
