Anthony Anekwe, Jr
Anthony is a self-taught classical pianist, and will be the first African American valedictorian at his high school. In and out of the foster care system, Anthony has had little contact with his father while growing-up, and his mother is in a coma. In seventh grade, Anthony would get up at 5:00 a.m. to make the 2 hour BART ride to the best public school in the district. He learned that it took more than intelligence to succeed and his hardships have motivated his determination. An Alameda police officer once told him, it's not where you come from, it's where you are going that counts. With a 5.0 GPA, Anthony's top three college choices are Brown, Yale, and Princeton and he hopes to eventually become a neurosurgeon.
