Pedro Jimenez

Pedro Jimenez’ life has been changed thanks to the people at his church in Fremont. Pedro needed a home- as one of six children he grew up in a poor and troubled family. There was no money and a lot of tension. At one desperate point, when the family began breaking up, Pedro was forced to live by himself in a warehouse with no running water, no electricity-he was just fourteen. But the worst was yet to come.

Social workers came in and sent Pedro and his brothers to different foster homes. He still worries a lot about his little brothers, and as ward of the court he could have easily become a statistic. But when his pastor's family took him in, he began a new life. When Pedro turned 18, the state announced he was on his own. But his foster parents said no way- he was family. At school his grades improved; he began to plan for college. But it was his attitude that moved his counselors and teachers.

Even though he has very little, he tells them he's grateful because he has an opportunity to stay in school and go to college; and because he now has a home.
