Career Guidance and Summer Internships

Resume Assistance

Are you good at Branding?  Storytelling?  Positioning?  If so, you can help our students tell their stories to potential employers and see themselves in a new light. Creating resumes with SRA students is actually a great way to get to know the students. Writing resumes the SRA way isn’t just about inserting items into a template, reformatting documents, or checking grammar. It is a creative process to help the students articulate what they have to offer as up-and-coming professionals – and then figure out the best way to organize that information on one page!

Your Commitment:

  • Attend a two hour training in the SRA Resume Way (date/location TBD)
  • Work with at least one student per month to either create or update a resume - the process includes a phone call to interview the student (approximately one hour) and drafting the resume (two to four hours). Typical turnaround time needed is one week.

Interview Coaching

Interview Coaches help SRA students prepare for interviews for internships and jobs. This includes familiarizing yourself with the student’s resume and the position/company and then coaching the student with practice interview questions (typically by phone). Sometimes, if the student does not have a very good sense of why they are a good fit for the job, it also includes an extra session where you teach the student HOW to prep for an interview before your actual practice session.

Your Commitment:

  • Attend a two hour training in the SRA Interview Prep Way (date/location TBD)
  • Work with at least one student per month to prep for an interview.  Approximately three hours of your time per month includes:
  • Your prep time - up to one hour (e.g. reviewing the student’s resume, the job description, researching the company)
  • Phone coaching sessions with students – about an hour (note: you may have one or two sessions for an interview depending on the student)

Application Essay and Cover Letter

This team will work with SRA students to edit their internship and job application essays and cover letters, ensuring students are addressing the questions asked and demonstrating why they are a great fit. It is an interesting balancing act to help the student produce a fantastic, targeted essay/letter while also reflecting his/her writing ability accurately.

Your Commitment: varies, as needed – but turn-around time is typically less than one week
