Lynne Martin

Lynne Martin , Executive Director Emeritus

Lynne was hired in 2004 as the first Executive Director of Students Rising Above, and is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s leaders in helping low-income students overcome poverty through education.  In partnership with Barb Hendricks, these two former Cal freshmen roommates helped nearly 700 students attend and graduate from college, and prepare for rewarding careers.

In 2014, SRA launched the SRA College2Careers Hub offering its personalized mentoring and programming through an online community serving 10,000 registered users.  Partnering with school districts, community colleges, and CSU’s, the Hub offers college advising to help students successfully navigate college and transition into the workforce. Students have 24/7 access to SRA Online Advisors, an extensive resource library, financial aid support, and career development.

Under Lynne’s 14 year leadership, SRA grew from $150,000 in 2004 to $4.1 million in 2017. Lynne earned her B.A. in Economics from UC Berkeley, and worked for executive search firm Boyden International and online portal LawCommerce prior to joining SRA.  She is an active volunteer in her community, having served on numerous educational, leadership, and philanthropic boards.

Lynne retired as Executive Director in April 2017 and looks forward to being an active SRA supporter and volunteer — and now, world traveler.
